Our Programs

Education

Education plays a pivotal role in transforming lives and empowering communities. At Asha Vidhyashram School, founded by HOPE worldwide Nepal in 1994, we are committed to providing free education to underprivileged children in Kathmandu. With an average enrollment of 120 children aged 4 to 14 years annually, our school offers classes from Nursery to Grade 5, ensuring a significantly higher standard of education. Through smaller class sizes, a comprehensive curriculum, dedicated pastoral care, and enriching extracurricular activities, we aim to nurture well-rounded individuals. Our primary objective is to ensure that at least 85% of our Grade 5 graduates proceed to secondary education, opening doors to brighter futures.

In parallel, our Vocational Training Centre (VTC) program operates in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Chhaimale Village and Chitwan offering three-month English proficiency and basic computer courses to approximately 400 youths per year from disadvantaged backgrounds. Recognizing the importance of channeling the country’s youthful energy towards economic growth and nation-building, the VTC program equips marginalized individuals with essential skills aligned with market demands.

Disaster Management
& Healthcare Needs

HOPE worldwide Nepal operates with a dual mission, addressing both disaster management and healthcare needs within communities across Nepal. In the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters, our dedicated volunteers are on the front lines, providing immediate relief efforts while also implementing strategies for long-term resilience. From distributing essential supplies like food, water, and clothing to rebuilding homes and schools, we aim to help individuals rebuild their lives and minimize the impact of future calamities. Concurrently, in response to the healthcare challenges faced by both urban and rural areas, our Health Camp initiatives deliver vital medical services and education. Recognizing the strain on public health infrastructure, particularly in Kathmandu, we have established clinics and partnered with hospitals to offer basic checkups, awareness programs, and essential supplies. By focusing on preventive measures, such as hygiene education and women’s health initiatives, we strive to empower communities with the knowledge and resources needed to lead healthier lives.

Through these combined efforts, HOPE worldwide Nepal has positively impacted over 1000 individuals, providing not only medical care but also fostering a culture of resilience and well-being for generations to come.

Graduates can apply for a small loan, which enables them to start their own small businesses. Since the launch of the program approximately 35% have started their own businesses.

Women in Nepal
Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and the 17th poorest in the world; over 25% of Nepalis live below the poverty line. Traditionally, males in Nepal have received better access to education than females, and females have not been allowed to be head of the household or have independent status. Women in Nepal have also faced discrimination by the caste system, which divides people on the basis of their occupation and lifestyle, and which still exists.

Reform is taking place, however, and in 2007 the Supreme Court of Nepal ruled that all laws that discriminate against individuals based on gender should be cancelled. According to the World Bank, Nepal is undergoing a historic transformation towards a federal republic and there is a ‘window of opportunity for the country to further reduce poverty,
